Copyright

Original musical works are protected by copyright. This happens as soon as the work is created whether or not the owner intended. The owner does not have to specify copyright. This means that the person who created the music, owns it unless he has sold it or given the rights away to others.

Music is covered by copyright laws. If you are a songwriter or musician then you need to protect your copyright from copyright theft. If you listen to or perform music then you need to be aware of copyright laws.

People that own copyright can:

  • copy the work
  • give or sell to the public
  • perform it in public
  • broadcast it

People that don’t, can’t

Criminals and terrorist groups use the sale of illegal CDs to make and launder money for nefarious purposes.

Taking music illegally means there is less available for music companies to discover new talent and to keep the talent they already have.

File sharing music is illegal whichever way you look at it. Most people that do this are thieves rather than paupers.
